Smithers Pira exclusive data shows that the MENA printing market will see an annual cross-segment growth of 9%, to reach $54 billion in 2022.

  • Advertising, packaging, and labels are expected to be the fastest growing end-use applications for print (by value) in 2018.
  • The Middle East will print the equivalent of 1.68 trillion A4 sheets in 2018.
  • The region will consume 91,640 tons of printing ink in 2018, with sales revenue from ink rising at 9.1% Y-o-Y.
  • Inkjet is now the third largest market segment for new print equipment sold for Middle East installations, and the fastest growing.
  • The MENA paper output is expected to increase to 2.76 trillion A4 sheet equivalents in 2022, representing a 2.8% annual growth rate.
  • The Lebanese printing industry is a competitive one, valued at an estimated $250 million, with around 1,000 companies of which 4% are big printing companies, 10% are medium, while the rest are small.

Sales of industrial packaging in the MENA region is projected to be valued at more than $5 billion by 2024. Sales revenue is expected to increase at a CAGR of 5.2% during the forecast period (2016–2024).

As international trade is projected to remain positive for the next five years, it is evident that there will be a significant demand for industrial packaging products across the MENA region.

  • More than 50% of the industrial packaging market in the MENA region is composed of plastics. This is due to growing industrialization and manufacturers’ inclination toward this material.
  • LibanPack, the Lebanese Packaging Center, has been a success story for the country. By improving packaging and labeling, it increased the competitiveness of Lebanese products in global markets.

Process automation in the Middle East & Africa market is expected to register a CAGR of 5.15% over the forecast period (2018-2023), according to Mordor Intelligence. Processing automation is expected to emerge as an effective entry point for manufacturing industries toward sustainable profits.

Steady growth in emerging markets, urbanization, and rising living standards are fueling demand for processed and packaged food, leading to higher equipment sales. According to Mckinsey, the food processing market in the Middle East and Africa is expected to witness an 8% CAGR (2016 – 2021).

  • Higher-value-added foods often require specialized machinery for processing, packaging, and serving, and growth in this segment is almost three times faster than convenience foods and four times faster than healthy foods.
